Testing my connection fails
When testing your connection, an issue can occur for a large number of reasons. First, some general issues can affect the test:
- Your Host
- It is possible your Host may have a temporary issue, or that they are carrying out maintenance. Try contacting them, or waiting a few hours and trying the test again.
- Internet Connection
- You might have a problem with your Internet connection. Try visiting a website with your web browser to test this. You can try restarting your computer or any other networking gear you may have, contacting your ISP, or waiting a few hours and trying again.
- Sandvox
- It is also possible that there might be some incompatibility between Sandvox and your Host. Try using an FTP client to see if you can connect successfully that way. If so, please visit our support forum to report the issue.
Testing your connection can also fail at a specific stage of the test. If so, Sandvox will alert you to where the test failed.
Test 1: Contacting Host
Contacting the Host may fail because:
- You have specified the wrong Hostname.
- You are behind a firewall which is blocking access to your Host.
- Your Host does not support your chosen Upload Method.
Test 2: Establishing Connection
Establishing a connection may fail because:
- Your username or password is incorrect, in which case Sandvox will tell you so.
- If you are using SFTP and a public key, and the public key is incorrect, the test will fail.
- Your Host does not support your chosen Upload Method.
- You are behind a firewall which blocks your chosen Upload Method.
Test 3: Creating Directories
Creating directories may fail because:
- You do not have permission to write to the Host
Check to be sure the Document Root is correct, and then contact your Host.
Test 4: Uploading Test File

- You do not have permission to write to the specified folder on your Host.
Check to be sure the Document Root is correct, and then contact your Host.
Test 5: Downloading Test File
Downloading the test file may fail because:
- You have specified the wrong URL Format.

- Your Host may not be "world readable" - contact your Host

- You do not have permission to write to the Host
